Please note: despite the word "beer" in the event description, this is a family friendly event. Moderation will be encouraged, and coffee is also available for those who prefer. Participants under 18 years old should come with a parent, guardian, or other responsible adult.
Esperanto has a long history in Rochester, more or less uninterrupted going back at least to 1946. This current group has been meeting regularly for a few months and is a good mix of old and new friends - some have been speaking Esperanto since the 90's. Others since just a few weeks before their first visit. The participants vary, but we've been getting about 4-6 people on average. Our regular meeting earlier in March broke a record with 8 people.
Depending on the speaking level of the people who come, we will have a mix of free conversation, games, and conversational activities. Eavesdrop on some more fluent speakers to see how much you understand. Find out how Esperanto is used locally, regionally, and around the world.
Note on the organizer: Tomaso ALEXANDER (known as "salivanto" on Duolingo) has been speaking Esperanto regularly for over 20 years, and has been teaching and answering questions about Esperanto for most of that time. Tomaso is a fluent speaker but also an experienced teacher of the language (teaching regularly online via Skype and also at NASK - the North American Summer Esperanto Institute in Raleigh NC.) It's normal to feel nervous about speaking Esperanto for the first time or to want to wait till you're really good - but it's by speaking it that we become really good - so please come learn with us.
