Meet your fellow Portland area Esperanto speakers. Relaxed atmosphere and all skill levels are welcome.
This will be an opportunity to travel to Esperantujo and speak Esperanto with several experienced speakers, but it is also the sort of event where beginners will feel very comfortable. The only thing we ask is that you come ready to speak at least a little Esperanto - even if it's only Saluton. Kiel vi fartas? and Mi ne komprenas. The important thing is to be ready to try.
Depending on the speaking level of the people who come, we will have a mix of free conversation, games, and conversational activities. Eavesdrop on some more fluent speakers to see how much you understand. Find out how Esperanto is used locally, regionally, and around the world.
Participants under 18 years old have to be accompanied by a parent, guardian, or another responsible adult.
*** News ****
We are trying something new this time to see if it is well received: We will have two questions (listed below), that you can prepare an answer in Esperanto ahead of time. The hope is that this will be less intimidating than having to ad-lib everything, and you can look up words you might be missing. It will be a good listening excercise for everyone else.
This can be as simple or elaborate as you wish - a couple of sentances to a full fledged monologue. It is obviously optional, so feel free to pass if you are not feeling up to it.
This months questions:
1. What kind of work do you do (or would like to do)? What are your favorite and less favorite parts about it?
2. Talk about a movie you saw and liked. What happened in it? Why did you like it?
Also if it is your first time, you can choose to prepare a short presentation about yourself.
